Four people supported by Community Living
Newmarket/Aurora District were volunteers during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver in Events Services at Canada Hockey Place.
The group, along with their support workers, traveled to Vancouver in February 2010. The group fundraised to
cover the cost of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Each of the four volunteers has an intellectual disability. We’d like you to meet them:
Sean
is 24 years old and lives in a home with support from Community Living. He
works as an assembler at Packaging Plus. His hobbies include swimming, hockey, bowling
and literacy classes.
Ben
is 24
years old and lives in Mount Albert with his family. He volunteers at the Society for the Ontario Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) as well as with the Canadian Cancer Society. His hobbies include swimming, snowmobiling,
going to the cottage with his family and cooking classes.
Daisy
is 26 years old and lives in Newmarket with her parents. She has worked at Value Village for five
years and at Starbucks for one year. Her
hobbies include tennis, soccer, basketball and skating.
Jennifer
is 26 years old and lives in Aurora with her parents. She has worked at Wendy’s for eight
years. She enjoys spending time at the
family’s Muskoka cottage and recently earned her pleasure craft license with
the Ontario Power Squadron.
